PICKLES !

With apologies to the late Andy Rooney.

Ever wonder how pickles got there name ?
I was eating a ham and pickle sandwich
and started reading the pickle jar label.
Got to thinking who named pickles, pickles?
(I probably have too much time on my hands.)
The odd name of pickles is eerily strange.
It's been written the name pickle refers to
the process of pickling, where you brine
vegetables in a salty vinegar solution.
The word has German roots, 'pokel'.
It's not known who first coined the word.
But is believed to come from 1440 A.D.
in the central European countries.
I don't think I would have called them pickles,
a better name would have been 'SourSalty'
Think about it, a ham and SourSalty sandwich.
Sounds snappier than a ham and pickel sandwich.
