The project was proposed on February 9, 2005
The Keystone pipeline has faced lawsuits from
oil refineries and criticism from environmentalists
and some members of the United States Congress.
The U.S. Department of State in 2010 extended
the deadline for federal agencies to decide
if the pipeline is in the national interest.
(Let's see now that took six years).
And in November, 2011, President Obama
postponed the decision until 2013.
(That would be nine years !).
On November 30, Senate Republicans
introduced legislation aimed at forcing
the Obama administration to approve
the Keystone XL pipeline within 60 days.
Unless the President declares the project
is not in the national interest.
The Obama administration rejected
the bid to expand the controversial
Keystone oil sands pipeline Wednesday.
Saying the deadline imposed by Congress
did not leave sufficient time
to conduct the necessary review.
(So how long should it take?)
