GOOGLE CAR !

You may not have to drive your car
in the not so distant future, at least
if Google has anything to say about it.
The company announced recently it has
been working on a merging of it’s technology
into a vehicle allowing it to drive itself
with little or no driver input.

The goal is to build a car that requires
as little input as possible, ideally none,
from the driver behind the wheel.
They nearly accomplished just that on a
recent test drive lasting about half an hour.

The test drive took place in the
Silicon Valley and included navigating
a number of California surface streets
as well as a stint on Highway 101.
The car performed rather well navigating
itself through the route without much fanfare.

The only two incidents that required
the driver to intercede were a bicyclist
that didn’t stop for a red light
and a car that stopped short.
Researchers maintain driver input
wasn’t necessary and that the car
would have performed as intended,
even in these emergency situations.
