TOSTITO'S HINT OF LIME TORTILLA CHIPS !

Many Americans have an adventurous spirit, but perhaps not always when it comes to food. Not me, I'll try anything once. People tend to eat what they know how to prepare, and they may be reluctant to invest in a new food if they're not sure if it tastes good. Lack of familiarity may also cause you to shy away from a new foods,
a behavior that is at least partly cultural, as we tend to avoid things we have not been exposed to before.
Who would have thought it would be so difficult to find a good tortilla chip?
Most I've tried are either to salty or just taste like corn flavored cardboard.
A tortilla chip is made simply by frying wedges of corn tortillas (sometimes they are referred to as corn chips). Perhaps my perspective is somewhat warped because my experience of eating tortilla chips has been to eat chips at a Mexican restaurant, where they are either made in house or purchased fresh from specialist suppliers, and served unsalted.
They are so good and the homemade salsa fresh so much more refreshing than the very good jarred varieties we eat at home. My foray into packaged chips was a different experience entirely. Half the brands tasted dusty while the taste on the palate was dry and powdery. Most were overly salty and several had both flaws. Some especially supermarket brands were so dusty and salty as to be un enjoyable, the excessive salt burning my lips, making me want to wash away the salt and the dusty taste with lots and lots of beer. Which I guess is their objective.

I read the ingredients on each bag. It’s interesting how such a simple product most of the better chips used stone ground corn and were fried in canola and or sunflower oil, then seasoned with salt.
