It is the Christmas season. But of course you know that. You are inhaling the commercialism of Christmas day in and out day and night, and "Felice Navidad" is stuck in your head like a twelve penny nail. Down deep I am selfish and don't like to feel obliged to celebrate the season by doing what other people are doing.
But that's just the way I have always been, A kind of leave me alone attitude. dancing, leaping, piping, drumming, welcoming the Christ Child with joyful hearts, etc. is not for me.
On the news in New York city, Mr. Madoff allegedly made off with fifty billion of dollars of other people's money in a Ponzi scheme, today one of the people he swindled committed suicide so I guess Madoff now has blood in his hands.
A few weeks ago a political pundit wrote about what a wonderful thing it would be to appoint Bill Clinton to the Senate to fill his wife's seat, him being a former president and all, and then that idea vanished. Bloop. I imagine Bill called up a few people and said, "Whom are you kidding?" When a man can jet around the world and be received as a potentate and knock down a hundred grand every time he feels like giving a speech, he is not going to want to sit in the Senate chamber and hear old men drone on about Arbor Day and the crucial role of the forest products industry.
I feel the same way about Christmas parties and family get to gethers. Although I love everyone I just don't feel comfortable with all of us together in the same room. Although I do fondly remember the eggnog of the Christmas Eve's festivities at my Uncle Val's and Aunt Kay's Christmas Eve's in Middletown. With those bubbling things on their Christmas tree. It hasn't been the same these past few years.
It isn't fun to stand around making small talk with other people's friends as they anesthetize themselves with alcohol. This is the time of year I love to hate
watching all the commercials on t.v. just depresses me to no end. I can't listen to the radio because of all of the stale Christmas songs. Only thing about this time of year is that people tend to be more civil and friendly in the unemployment line.
Merry Christmas!
