I had to go to the big city the other day for some legal stuff. I drove into the parking garage and opened my car door. First thing I noticed was the noise. Some construction worker was using a jack hammer. It was raining and I found it strange that people were standing on the street corner, not doing anything but standing and watching the cars go by. There was a large flock of Pigeons flying from the rooftop parapet of one building to another. A huge plumb of steam rising up from the roof of another building. Car horns a honking in the rain. As I got to the entrance of the building I heard the up and down whaling's of fire engines as they passed by on the side street. The metal detector machine beeped as I walked though it. O.k. I had to take my belt off because of the metal belt buckle. Walked through hearing beep number two. I already had put my car keys on the tray that the guard pushed through to the other side. I'm not wearing any metallic jewelry and I don't have a metal plate in my head. The guard suggested I take my shoes off, so I did. You guessed it were on beep number three. What could I have on me that was making this machine go off like that? Thinking about the clothes I was wearing, the only thing I could think of was I was wearing blue jeans that had those little metal rivits at the pockets. Surely they weren't making it beep. The guard exclaimed "You might have to remove your pants Sir". Then he laughed and took out a hand held wand metal detector thing. Sure enough it was those little tiny rivets making the machine go off. I think they have the settings just a tad too sensative.
Now I have to go to the fourth floor. There are to elevators side by side about ten feet apart with one elevater button centered in between them. I pushed the button and one of the doors opened up. I walked over to it and the door started to close. I stuck my arm in and the doors kept closing. I quickly pulled my arm out in the fear of it getting crushed by the doors. I think the elevator door closer setings are a little to fast.
I got to the waiting area and sat down to wait because that is what you do in a waiting room, you wait. As I did I took the time to pick off all the dog hairs clinging to me coat. It was like I was wearing a "Modog" fur coat. After my meeting I then left the building into the sounds of the city and the street people still standing in the rain. Cicling my way down to the street level in the parking garage, I pulled up to the pay to exit booth, gave the parking garage attendant my ticket, paid my fee and waited for the gate to open so that I could leave. Waited and waited and waited. It finally went up and I drove away but I couldn't help thinking, they have the raise up the gate settings a little to slow.
