"Take one more step and I'll fill you up with lead" Jince shouted as he turned to face Joshua, the eldest of the Forester's clan. The crowd on the street all moved to the sides and away from them, some running into the shelter of doorways and alleys watching as the scene took place before them.
The sunny afternoon air went silent."Why are you blamin me Jince?" Joshua asked being careful not to give any appearance of movement. "It was thedog that I saw running away from your tent!".
Thedog was the name of the last Mettacomet Indian in town."It was Thedog who'd scratched his nose on yer tent" Joshua added. The church bell rang out the time of day, three bells, as a mother yelled for her child to "Git in the house".
On the left side of the street was the mercantile and the general store, next to the Undertaker and the stables. On the right side was the Sheriff's office and jail sitting next to the saloon and Western Union office. All was silent, the undertaker watched from behind the half door of the blacksmith shop.
Jince in a stern voice asked Joshua "Where's my gold?". Joshua un buttoned the strap on his colt holster. Saying to Jince "I told you it was Thedog who took your gold" adding "Saw him meself I did". Jince turned his head just enough to be heard by the clerk in the Western Union office and shouted "Get the Sheriff!".
"I'm right here Jince" Sheriff Vik called out as he approached from behind. "Someone cut a hole in my tent and took my satchel of gold, I think it was him" Pointing to Joshua. For the moment time seemed to stand still with tension in the air.
Suddenly Thedog was seen running into the stable from behind the horse troff, appearing a moment later riding his bay horse Lightning. Running past Joshua,Jince and Sheriff Vik, he was trying to head out of town.
Jince raised his six shooter and took aim. One shot was all it took as Thedog fell to the dusty ground whilst his horse ran off. All three men made there way to Thedogs lifeless body and sure enough, laying there right beside him was Jinces satchel of gold.
"Don't worry Jince "Sheriff Vik pronounced "I seen the whole thing, I think you shot him in self defense". Joshua said "See Jince, I told ya it was Thedog who took yer gold".
Jince bent down and took his gold agreeing with Joshua. They all split up in various directions as the caretaker was seen hitching up his horse to a flat wagon.
