Dowsing, sometimes called doodlebugging, divining, water witching, or bio-location
is the practice which some people say permits them to detect hidden water wells and even buried metals. A "Y" or "L" shaped twig or rod about 20" in length is used during the dowsing process, but some dowsers use other equipment, fairly heavy fence wire, even wire coathangers will do. There are no scientific instruments yet available which can detect Earth Energies. The trained dowser walks along, holding the divining rod in a certain way. When the rod seems to jerk downward, the dowser stops and digs for un seen water or metal.
Seemed like a neat thing to do on a sunny afternoon, so I went and found me a "Y" shaped stick, which isn't as easy as it sounds to find. But I found one and went pacing back and forth in the back field as Gordon farm the dog tagged along behind me. Back and forth we went around the back yard dowsing for metal. Mabey even a New England gold nugget or two. After about an hour of strange looks from the neighbors I decided to give it a rest and went inside to show Grampa the Divining rod I had made. Turns out the stick I had found was from a Poison Sumac tree. Lucky me.
I don't know if my divining had any effect on anything but man we sure got a big thunderstorm last night !
