ANOTHER CONSTRUCTION CRANE COLLAPSE ?

"Quincy Massachusettes- A section of a 25-story-tall crane collapsed this afternoon as it was being dismantled and killed a 28-year-old iron worker killed by the falling wreckage.
Four other iron workers suffered non-life-threatening injuries when a massive support leg gave way on the crane, which has loomed over the Fore River Shipyard for decades".
This latest collapse in Massachusetts, the place of the "Big Dig".
What's going on with all these construction crane collapses?
In an earlier blog post I reasoned that all of the good crane workers are in the country of Dubai because that country is really booming with a bunch of cranes in the air over the country. But aren't there any safety standards working here?

IN THE 1980'S I owned and operated a construction company that employed twelve people and did everything from asphalt paving to framing houses and landscaping.(By landscaping I don't mean cutting grass)
We moved the earth with bull dozers, dump trucks and backhoe loaders, planted trees, seeded and sodded the lawns of new housing developments. Anyway...
In over ten years in business not one of my employees even had to use a band aid.
The reason was a company policy of, if you think it's not safe don't do it, period!
Not to say mishaps didn't occur from time to time. Physical labor also requires mental reasoning. Well I really wonder why in these past few years there have and continue to be all these crane collapses. Is it because they are building and dismantling beyond their means? Or is it because the union bosses are getting paid off to look the other way while safety standards are shortened?
